MOMENTS with ROBERT PATTINSON

Portrait of ROBERT PATTINSON for ROVER by JANA CRUDER

It was a warm day in LA, I had an hour to set up and moments to create.  I did what I usually do, arrived early, game plan in mind, gear charged and ready to go.  I checked into the hotel, set up my scenes, tested the lights and walked myself through what my 5 minutes with Robert would be.   The clock ticked away, he was 3o minutes late.  I was convinced they cancelled.   Moments after that my client walked in and said they're on their way.   My heart started racing and my fingers started sweating.  I double checked everything again, lights, cameras and exposure readings.

Robert walked in, said hello and shook everyone's hand, I introduced myself as his photographer and he looked at me and said " I like your pants ",  happy I chose the yellow ones that day.    I had set up in a small room in the suite and after Robert and I entered my client shut the door.  That was a blessing.  I was happy it was him and I,  being one on one with those in front of my lens helps me connect in and have a real chance to talk, try to know each other in a short amount of time where we both feel vulnerable, who is he and who am I?   We talked and we worked through the set up's I had,    My brother was in town visiting so I looped him in to help hold a reflector and Robert and him started a conversation about the tattoo my brother had, a-ha a Star Wars fan, of course who isn't.   A moment later, a voice yells through the door " 1 minute " Robert and I look at each-other like  wow - really?! We're just getting going.

I still had more ideas and images to make.  I asked if he wouldn't mind stepping outside, for something a little different and he agreed.   I pulled out one of my magic makers and it immediately caught Roberts attention, he was very intrigued,  I gave it to him and he played with it and loved the idea of an image with it...that moment created an opportunity to create this image, by bringing him into the process of the image creation I felt I earned a touch more of his trust. Together we made #MAGIC he was so nice and I hope to have more opportunities to create and collaborate with him.

After all that is what its all about.

LIZZY CAPLAN by Jana Cruder

LIZZY CAPLAN by Jana Cruder

I was under the gun to create an image that would stop the page for my client.  I was on the Sony Lot in LA, waiting for Lizzy to arrive.  Going through my shot options in my head.
I was blown away when she walked out in this stunning Orange Blazer!   Photographer's dream!  I moved quickly, her beauty was effortless. What a talent!

I'm very pleased with what we created together, and looking forward to working with her again soon.

CREATING MAGIC - with the ASPEN SANTA FE BALLET Company by Jana Cruder

I was commissioned to photograph the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Co.  I've always wanted to explore color and movement.  Watching these amazingly talented dancers move made my ideas fly!   Together we created these beautiful pieces that express emotion and the art of movement.

Shooting with the powder proved to be a challanging mess as well as technically trying, timing movement to the falling of the powder as well as colored corn starch in every bit of all my equipment.

Together we all were able to finesse the capturing in mid air and these images were created.

Jana Cruder exhibits her new fine-art still & video series ” THE WAY OF THE MODERN MAN “.
In our contemporary Western society, our attachment to handheld technology is irrefutable. Contemplation on the effects of this dependency, however, is
rare. Cruder, set out to explore and document the relationship between individuals and technology. Within an observation isolation booth, each participant entered into dialogue via his or her device with photographer Jana Cruder. To capture the significant effect of social the habit, people was observed semi-nude, accompanied only by their cellular device. Final images and video, symbolize the connection of bodily regression, physiological changes and our attachment to inanimate devices.

CREATION
Each participant, of a chosen cast of subjects, will spend approximately thirty minutes in private session with the artist. The subject will be alone within a physically confined space, permitted to enter only with his or her mobile device. Communication between the subject and the artist will take place via text message only, and will vary slightly per session. The only other access into the session will be via camera lens, which will be fitted into an opening in the wall of the space.
The artist will be outside the enclosed space, controlling not only the text exchange but also still capture and video recording. Conversations captured in multiple layers: text message, still image, and video footage. A crafted compilation of these layers will explore the human:device relationship specifically in its effect on the human body.
